WEDNESDAY, APRIL 25

• This week we have been learning about Enzymes
• There are 4 sets of notes, come to class if you are missing any.

Tuesday, April 17th

• Sorry for the lack of updates, folks! Most of the past week has been spent practicing transcribing and translating. We also learned about recombinant DNA and the possible future of humanity with GMO’s and designer babies.
• Test is Wednesday, here is the review:

Tuesday, April 10th

• We marked the first page of the DNA CYP (both sides) and practice transcribing mRNA from DNA, and translating it into tRNA and amino acids.

Monday, April 9th

• We finished the rest of Friday’s notes (DNA Translation, see link for notes and key below).
• We practiced transcribing DNA into mRNA, and translating mRNA into tRNA and amino acids (the images below show how the code flipflops)

Friday, April 6th

• We made it! We survived a very sleepy, snowy spring day.
• We did learn a little bit about how DNA codes for your traits. Specifically, we learned about the different types of RNA (messenger RNA, transfer RNA, and ribosomal RNA) and how these are transcribed from the DNA.

Thursday, April 5th

• We finished our models today and had a plicker quiz on DNA structure & replication

Wednesday, April 4th

• Today we built paper models of DNA!
• Click here for the model lab handout. If you are making the model at home, do not worry about the fancy shapes. Use small circles for your phosphates (you can trace a dime to make them), pentagons for your sugars, and differnt colored rectangles for your bases (Adenine + Guanine = long, Cytosine + Thymine = Short).
  • This model and the questions will be due on Friday, April 6th.

Tuesday, April 3rd

• Welcome back! I hope everyone had a restful Spring Break. We are on our last stretch of molecular biology before our body systems units!
